Hi readers,
As a working mom from home and aspiring author, juggling work, family, and writing my book, "The Nocturnal Plague," has been quite the adventure. It's not always easy, but I've found that having a routine really helps me stay on track and make the most of my time.
The Magic of Routines
Routines are my secret weapon. They bring a sense of order to the chaos of daily life. Every morning for example, I follow a set routine to get my older kids ready for school, my toddler ready to start his day of adorable mischief, and myself ready for a day of working at home and taking care of my toddler. This not only sets a positive tone for the day but following a routine also helps me find pockets of time to write in the afternoon when the kids are home and I'm off work. Although it's busy, the day-to-day tasks get completed, so I can focus on getting in some writing.
Sneaking in Writing Time
As any mom knows, free time is a rare treasure. But I've learned to grab every chance I get to write, whether it's replacing my TikTok doom scroll moments, waiting to pick up my kids for school, or in those quiet moments before bed. These little snippets of time add up and help me keep moving forward with my book.
Late-Night Writing Sessions
One of my favorite times to write is in the evening when the older kids are tucked in bed and my toddler is sound asleep. The house is quiet, and I can fully immerse myself in my story. These late-night writing sessions have become a cherished part of my routine, giving me a peaceful and uninterrupted space to let my creativity flow.
A Birthday Pause
Recently, my routine was thrown for a loop when my husband and I had the fun task of planning and celebrating my son's birthday. Between organizing the party, decorating the cake, and enjoying the festivities, I didn't get much writing done. While it was a wonderful and memorable experience, it did set me back a bit in my writing schedule. I also was kind of worried that it would be hard to get back into the habit of writing again since I had stopped for two days. Plus, I was pretty tired as well from partying and planning!
Back on Track
Now that the celebrations are over, I'm happy to say that I'm back on track and more determined than ever to finish my book! I've re-established my routines and I'm making the most of every free moment to write. The birthday party moment reminded me of the importance of flexibility and the need to adapt when life happens. Writing this book is not just about the destination or the end goal. It's about the journey in between.
Wrapping Up
Balancing work, family life, and writing a book is no easy feat, but with the right routines and a determined mindset, it's possible to make progress in all areas. I'm excited to continue this journey and can't wait to share "The Nocturnal Plague" with you all. Thanks for being a part of my writing adventure!
